Lao-tzu

    Laotse (chinesisch 老子, pinyin Lǎozi, Wade-Giles Lao Tzu; romanisiert auch als Lao Tse, Lao Tu, Lao-Tsu, Laotze, Laosi, Laocius und andere Varianten) ist eine der prominentesten Figuren der chinesischen Philosophie, deren historische Existenz ungewiss ist. Die chinesische Überlieferung ordnet sein Leben in das 6. Jahrhundert v. Chr. ein, viele moderne Sinologen verlegen sein Leben in das 4. Jahrhundert v. Chr. oder betrachten es als eine Zusammenstellung von Figuren mehrerer Philosophen aus diesen Epochen. Er ist der legendäre Begründer des Taoismus und Autor seiner grundlegenden Abhandlung Tao Te Ching.
