Maria Henrietta Martínez Hughes

    Le feu dévorant
My Father's Servant Heart; Mi Padre, Su Amor: The Extraordinary Life of a Faithful Man
    • This memoir recounts the journey of a devoted Catholic couple who faced poverty, illness, and discrimination, all while maintaining their unwavering faith in God. It follows Ignacio T. Martínez from his childhood in a traditional Catholic family of ten in the early 1900s to his death, highlighting the challenges he encountered, including the denial of a high school education due to discrimination. After marrying Catalina Campos, he moved to San Antonio, where they raised ten children. Ignacio sacrificed personal luxuries to support his family and took in relatives in need. He overcame serious illnesses through prayer and became his father's caregiver while managing his own family responsibilities in the 1950s. The memoir invites readers to witness God's miracles through Ignacio's life. Maria Henrietta (Enriqueta) Martínez Hughes, one of Ignacio and Catalina's middle children, still lives in San Antonio. She is married to Steven W. Hughes and has two adult sons. An aspiring writer and active parish member since 1997, she has contributed to her community through various roles, including teaching Faith Formation and confirmation classes. Her inspiration to write this memoir stems from her parents, affectionately known as Papo and Granny by their grandchildren.
