Die einsilbige Frau fungiert neben ihrem Putzjob alsbald auch als Seelenmülleimer des sich selbst zerfleischenden Paars und seines pubertierenden Sohns. Und auch der Arbeitgeber der Frau, ein hipper Konzept-Künstler, entdeckt Jessica für sich: Als putzende Performerin soll sie in seinen kapitalismuskritischen Installationen den Dreck der Zivilisation beseitigen. Eine schwarze Komödie über alltägliche Mechanismen der Ausbeutung, die das vermeintlich linksliberale Bürgertum als reaktionär entlarvt, und eine makabre Satire auf den Kunstbetrieb ist. Märtyrer Ein Jugendlicher will aus religiösen Gründen nicht mehr zum Schwimmunterricht. Sein überraschendes Coming-Out als fanatischer Christ untermauert er fortan neben seinem Bibelsprech auch mit Taten: Er steigt mit seinen Anziehsachen ins Schwimmbecken und provoziert mit seinen radikalen Ansichten zu Evolutionstheorie und Homosexualität. Seine Lehrerin, die ihm zunächst helfen will, wird zu seiner erbitterten Gegnerin. Eine gewaltsame Eskalation des Konflikts scheint vorprogrammiert. „Märtyrer“ erzählt davon, wie sich spätpubertärer Widerstand gegen vorgefundene Systeme erhebt und zu religiös zementiertem Fanatismus auswächst.

Mayenburg patrí k najznámejším súčasným nemeckým dramatikom. Niekoľko jeho hier sa uvádzalo i v slovenských divadlách, vznik ostatných prekladov inicioval Divadelný ústav. Publikácia obsahuje hry Eldorádo, Haarmann, Paraziti, Studené dieťa, Tvár v ohni (preložili Roman Olekšák, Svetlana Waradzinová). Analýze jednotlivých hier sa venuje významný nemecký teoretik Thomas Irmer v štúdii pod názvom Divadlo so svetom spája autor v preklade Adama Bžocha.
