Hned první stránky románu Lhostejní nás ex abrupto uvádějí do prostředí a děje: vstupujeme do salónu honosné buržoazní vily někde v Římě, kde spolu konverzují matka Mariagrazia, stará, snobská, zmalovaná a omezená ženština, její milenec Leo, vychytralý a cynický obchodník hrající sina zachránce rodiny, dcera Karla a syn Michal, útrpně prožívající stále stejně plynoucí dny a pociťující lhostejnost vůči všemu okolo. Později se ke společnosti přidává ještě matčina přítelkyně Líza, bývalá Leonova milenka, na kterou Mariagrazia chorobně žárlí. Onoho večera se začínají sbíhat nitky dlouhodobých strategií a tužeb jednotlivých postav.

Kniha je výběrem novel od 18 italských renesančních autorů. Matteo Bandello je zde zastoupen nejpočetněji. Výběr novel a překlad je dílem Adolfa Felixe, který má již v Databázi překlady pěti titulů. Závěrečným slovem renesanční tvorbu italských autorů doplnil Josef Bukáček.

The first three volumes of Gibbon's DECLINE AND FALL (the western empire) were published by Everyman in 1993. Volumes 4-6 complete the set which is now available for the first time in many years. This year is the bicentenary of Gibbon's death, which has been widely noticed in the press, but even after two hundred years his book is still an authoritative work on Roman history. What is more, it remains wonderfully readable: witty, elegant and intriguing, full of the author's own personality. The six-volume Everyman edition - the only complete one now available-prints the entire text of the book with all Gibbon's own notes, later editorial commentaries, maps, tables, descriptive tables of contents, indices, appendices and two magisterial essays on the author and his work by Hugh Trevor-Roper.

Inspector Alan Grant von Scotland Yard muss mit einem gebrochenen Bein das Bett hüten - und fühlt sich wie im Gefängnis. Eine Freundin rät ihm, sich an einem der vielen ungelösten Rätsel der Kriminalgeschichte zu versuchen, und versorgt ihn mit Porträts berühmter Verbrecher. Beim Anblick von Richard III., der seine Neffen ermordet haben soll, muss Grant stutzen: Keineswegs die Visage eines Mörders, befindet der erfahrene Polizist. Mit der Unterstützung eines unterbeschäftigten Historikers geht Grant der Sache nach und stellt fest: Die Beweislage ist äußerst dürftig. Grant kann der Versuchung nicht widerstehen: Vom Krankenbett aus rollt er einen über vierhundert Jahre zurückliegenden Mordfall ganz neu auf.
