    • Fourth European Workshop on Standardised Procedure for the Inspection of Sprayers in Europe – SPISE 4- The directive 2009/128/EC obliged the Member States to ensure that all pesticide application equipment in professional use shall be subject to inspections at regular intervals. The Member States are responsible for the practical realization of the European regulations. To defi ne the details as uniform as possible an extensive exchange of experience is essential. For this purpose the SPISE-workshops off er an excellent platform. From 27 to 29 March 2012 the fourth SPISE-Workshop took place at Lana (Italy). The Workshop was organised by the SPISE Working Group (SWG), to which representatives from Belgium, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany belong (Chairman: Dr.-Ing. H. Ganzelmeier). The participants came from inspection and research institutes, administration and private companies and brought with them the necessary technical expertise. • Second European Workshop on Standardised Procedure for the Inspection of Sprayers in Europe - SPISE 2 - Nach der Durchführung des ersten europäischen Workshops vom 27. bis 29.

    • Plant protection increasingly relies on sustainable management and consumer expectations for food quality and reliability. This involves high-quality plant protection products, reliable equipment, and skilled operators. Equipment must accurately dose and distribute products while functioning effectively, necessitating regular inspections to identify and rectify technical defects. Regularly inspected sprayers are crucial for ensuring sufficient pest and disease control with minimal product use, reducing environmental contamination risks, and ensuring operator safety. Member States are focusing on ensuring the reliable operation of plant protection equipment through sprayer inspections. A European standard for these inspections was published in early 2003 to guide EU practices. A recent three-day workshop aimed to familiarize experts from Member States with this standard, share experiences on existing inspections, and establish a consistent approach based on EN 13790. Approximately 80 experts from 20 Member States and candidate countries attended, alongside representatives from the European Commission, who discussed future regulations for plant protection equipment. The workshop featured presentations, an exhibition of test facilities, and visits to approved inspection workshops. Participants received PowerPoint presentations and workshop proceedings, which are also available for other experts. The initiative was well-received,
