The essays in this volume provide an important contribution to the study of the thought of Epicurus and his school: they are placed in a time of great rebirth of interest in Epicurus' philosophical system and, more in general, in the Hellenistic philosophies. The studies are organized into several sections following the partition of Epicurus's philosophy (canonic, physics, and ethics) and including also essays on the textual tradition, as well as on the textual forms of Epicurus' works. The presence of young scholars is a chief feature of the volume, which is the result of a network of historical and theoretical exchanges and debates inspired by the most genuine philia. The peculiar characteristic of the collected contributions is the interdisciplinary nature of the contents and especially of the methodologies, according to the firm belief that only an approach of this kind which closely links philosophy and papyrology, literature and philology may be crucial for the safe understanding of the thought of Epicurus and his school.
