Iris Kelly feels surrounded by love while she remains single, watching her friends and family thrive in their relationships. To cope, she dives into her new career as a romance novelist, though her creativity is stifled after pouring all her energy into her debut book. In an attempt to escape her writer's block, Iris heads to a bar in Portland, where a night of dancing with a stranger, Stefania, leads to a disastrous one-night stand. To distract herself further, Iris auditions for a local play, only to discover that Stevie, the stranger from the bar, is also involved. When Stevie asks Iris to pretend to be her girlfriend, Iris is taken aback but agrees, hoping this fake relationship might spark her creativity.
