Yesterday, the Star Kingdom of Manticore was a small, unimportant interstellar nation, recently recovering from the Plague Years. While more affluent than some, it lacked the resources to attract trade or maintain a navy. However, Manticore has now become a target, facing unknown attackers with unclear motives. Queen Elizabeth I realizes that Manticore needs a navy and must forge alliances with powerful neighbors like the Republic of Haven and the Andermani Empire to secure trade and military support. Officers such as Travis Long and his wife, Lisa, are tasked with gaining experience, while Travis's brother, Gavin, Earl Winterfall, must navigate the complexities of diplomacy to build these critical alliances. They are sent to the Andermani Empire, home to one of the galaxy's most formidable navies. Yet, the Andermani face their own turmoil; the death of their Emperor has ignited civil war, plunging the once-mighty navy into chaos. As Manticoran visitors, Travis, Lisa, and Gavin find themselves caught in the midst of this upheaval. Before they can achieve their goals of alliance and stability, they must first navigate the dangers surrounding them and ensure their own survival.
