Librarian Lucy's wedding is jeopardized when a murder disrupts her engagement celebrations. Lucy Richardson and Connor McNeil have just announced their engagement, prompting friends to host a celebration at Coquina Beach, near Lucy's cherished Bodie Island Lighthouse Library. As they pack up gifts and leftovers from Josie's Cozy Bakery, Lucy's former almost-fiancé, Richard Eric Lewiston III, arrives with his overbearing mother, Evangeline. She makes it clear her intention is to rekindle Lucy and Ricky's romance, but Lucy remains unfazed, while Ricky is embarrassed by his mother's antics. Before heading back to Boston, Evangeline invites Lucy and her family to a dinner at Jake's Seafood Bar. Lucy hopes to endure the dinner and see them off, but disaster strikes when a body is discovered at the restaurant's kitchen door. Reluctantly, Lucy must don her detective hat once more to protect her family and engagement. Meanwhile, chaos ensues at the Lighthouse Library as Lucy's classic novel reading club tackles The Hound of the Baskervilles, and she temporarily cares for a dog named Fluffy, much to the dismay of Charles, the library cat.
