A friend of notable artists like Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline, Conrad Marca-Relli (1913–2000) was a significant figure in American Abstract Expressionism. He co-founded the Eight Street Club and promoted the influential Ninth Street Show, marking his pivotal role in the 1950s New York art scene. This monograph, published in collaboration with the Archivio Marca-Relli at the Niccoli gallery in Parma, highlights key milestones in Marca-Relli’s career and his impact on both American and international art. After World War II, he became a central figure in New York's art community, initially joining the Downtown Group and later establishing the Eight Street Club alongside Mark Rothko and Willem de Kooning. He was also a friend of Lee Krasner and served as a lecturer at Yale and Berkeley. The Whitney Museum honored him with a solo exhibition in 1967. A frequent traveler between the U.S. and Europe, he settled in Parma in 1997, where he collaborated with Galleria d'Arte Niccoli and founded the Archivio Marca-Relli. This archive has supported numerous exhibitions, including a major retrospective in Milan in 2008. His works are held in prestigious collections, including the Guggenheim in Bilbao, the MET, MoMA, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
