'Thinking Through Circus' features ten dialogues with circus artists, highlighting how specific circus practices serve as critical thinking exercises. These discussions explore themes such as feminism, queerness, dramaturgy, love, disobedience, posthumanism, and the aesthetico-political imaginary within contemporary circus. The project aims to illuminate the embodied relationships between modern circus and the current world, advocating for circus as a space for experimental thinking that can foster sustainability, accountability, and agency in the field. Led by Bauke Lievens, Quintijn Ketels, and Sebastian Kann, and supported by Vincent Focquet, this two-year artistic research initiative at KASK School of Arts Ghent (BE) seeks to bridge theory and artistic practice in circus. The Circus Dialogues emphasizes the importance of ongoing experimental thought within a long-term sustainable artistic and institutional ecology. Activities include diverse artistic practices, reading groups, collaborative gatherings for circus artists, and the publication of Open Letters to the Circus. These efforts aim to envision the circus as a significant and political domain, while defending it as an open and undefinable form. For updates, visit our website www.circusdialogue.com.
