Ken Scotland was born on 29 August 1936 near Heriot's Goldenacre ground, where he later showcased his exceptional talent. Initially a fly-half in school, he transitioned to full-back during the 1957 international trials, earning his first cap against France and scoring all of Scotland's points in a historic win. After school, he joined the army and attended Cambridge University, from which he was selected for the 1959 British & Irish Lions tour to Australia and New Zealand. His performance during this four-month tour earned him acclaim as a key player. Using his diary entries from the expedition, Scotland vividly recounts the experiences in changing rooms, hotels, and on the field. He played in five Tests for the Lions and earned twenty-seven caps for Scotland before retiring in 1965, solidifying his status as one of Scotland's greatest players. He continued club rugby while pursuing a successful business career. Now at eighty-three, Scotland shares his life story in collaboration with Allan Massie, a leading figure in Scottish rugby journalism. This work offers a compelling narrative of his achievements and insights into the legends of his era, making it a captivating read for rugby enthusiasts across generations.
