Eve Dallas and her partner, Peabody, investigate a brutal crime involving the murder of an elderly grocery owner by three drugged youths. This case marks a significant moment for Peabody, who is now the primary detective, stepping into a new role of authority and responsibility, having learned from Eve. After apprehending the suspects, Peabody finds herself in a precarious situation. Eager to enhance her fitness, she decides to work out at a seldom-used gym at Central. Following an intense session, she retreats to a shower stall, enjoying the solitude. However, her peace is shattered when two fellow officers, Garnet and Oberman, enter and begin arguing. Peabody overhears them discussing illicit activities involving a "product," a house in the islands, and a person named Keener, who is linked to a suspicious overdose. Realizing the officers are corrupt and involved in murder, Peabody remains hidden, aware of the danger she faces. Fortunately, the officers leave without noticing her presence. Understanding the gravity of the situation, Peabody enlists Eve and her husband, Roarke, to gather the necessary evidence to expose the corrupt cops, fully aware that they have already committed murder to protect their secrets and will likely do so again.
