The story unfolds in the swamps of Louisiana, where the Labasque family lives on the fringes of society, hunting alligators for survival. When Cutter Labasque is discovered dead in the swamp, the community quickly dismisses it as suicide, but her childhood friend Loyal Duval, recently returned home, feels compelled to investigate.
