Focusing on the Venezuelan government from 2013 to 2016, this work examines the theoretical and institutional criteria to assess its democratic nature. It employs a qualitative, phenomenological-hermeneutic methodology, utilizing documentary observation to analyze the regime's mechanisms for establishment. The study unfolds in three phases, detailing the theory of democracy and its various interpretations, while exploring how these concepts intertwine with competitive authoritarianism and totalitarianism in shaping Venezuela's political landscape.
