Set against the backdrop of a sunny April morning, the story follows G.L. Holder and his friends, Alvin Edwards and Vollie Crisp, as they embark on a fishing trip. With school out for the weekend, they look forward to a leisurely day by the creek. G.L. packs a homemade lunch, including fresh biscuits and leftover cornbread. Despite his initial reservations, he allows Vollie to suggest an adventurous plan for their outing, hinting at the camaraderie and spontaneity of their friendship.
