Winnifred Eaton, a Canadian author of Chinese-British descent, wrote under the Japanese pseudonym Onoto Watanna and later as Winifred Reeve. Her romance novels, particularly "A Japanese Nightingale," published in 1900, achieved great success, leading to translations and adaptations for Broadway and film.
