Movement and Behaviour of the New Zealand Eagle Ray

Research on intertidal species, particularly the New Zealand Eagle Ray, reveals its remarkable ability to navigate estuaries and avoid stranding. Utilizing GPS data-loggers and telemetry, the study tracked the ray's movements in relation to tidal patterns. The findings indicate that the species relies on tidal information for movement during rising and falling tides and exhibits distinct resting and feeding behaviors in various estuarine zones. This research enhances understanding of intertidal species' behaviors and their adaptation to dynamic environments.
