Production and Microstructural Phenomena affecting Friction Stir Welds

Friction stir welding (FSW) represents a rapidly advancing joining technology crucial for aircraft fuselage manufacturing. This review explores how welding parameters and tool designs impact the microstructure and mechanical behavior of FS welds. It highlights the influence of welding rates on micro-hardness, static properties, failure locations, and residual stresses. Additionally, the study examines material flow, grain structure, and precipitate distribution in aluminum FS welds, emphasizing their effects on mechanical properties and the future potential for industrial applications.
