Mia Strauss is striving to be a good mother while grappling with the trauma of losing her memory at eighteen, following a violent incident that claimed her father's life. Lately, she feels increasingly paranoid, sensing that she is being watched, and struggles to manage her rising anxiety with prescription drugs. When her husband, Alexander, finds her unconscious on the living room floor, it becomes clear that she must make significant changes to avoid losing her children. Alexander, a neurologist at Columbia University, has grown distrustful of Mia due to her erratic behavior since the birth of their twin daughters. She has lost weight, dresses only in black, and removed mirrors from their home. Despite having a team of doctors, Mia shows no signs of improvement and poses a danger to herself and their family. While it’s believed that Mia's amnesia is permanent, Alexander suspects it may be psychological. He issues her an ultimatum: seek genuine help or risk losing him and their girls. In a bid to save her marriage, Mia enrolls in an experimental therapy using psilocybin, which aims to help trauma survivors recover their lost memories. As she begins to uncover her past, it becomes evident that those closest to her are determined to prevent her from remembering the truth about that fateful night, resorting to extreme measures to keep her from uncovering what really happened.
