Backhaus has succeeded in capturing motifs that exude both a sense of the enigmatic and the sublime. The readers gaze is tranfixed as they unravel the mystery of what makes these banal objects hold such intrigue. Reminiscent of still-lifes and yet accidental in their compostion, Backhaus turns the arbitary and organic into palpable frames.
