"Kashtanka" (Каштанка) is an 1887 short story by Anton Chekhov. Kashtanka, a young foxey-looking mongrel, belonging to a carpenter drunkard named Luka Alexandrovich gets lost through her own 'improper behaviour', frightened by a military band on the street.
