A Study in Scarlet

Set against the backdrop of the second Afghan war, the narrative follows a newly graduated doctor who joins the Fifth Northumberland Fusiliers as an Assistant Surgeon. After arriving in India, he quickly finds himself in the midst of conflict, where he faces both the chaos of battle and personal tragedy. His journey takes a harrowing turn during the battle of Maiwand, where he suffers a severe injury from a Jezail bullet. The story highlights themes of bravery and loyalty, particularly through the actions of his devoted orderly, Murray, who risks everything to save him.
